Spring: You will find the city's trees and parks blooming with 12ºC (54ºF) in April. In May the weather becomes almost summery with 21ºC (70ºF) in June. 
Summer: Summers are dry and can be very hot, with 25ºC (77ºF) in July and August.
Autumn: In October, autumn in Madrid is very mild, but as November progresses temperatures drop and rainfall becomes more frequent with 7ºC (45ºF) in December. 
Winter: Winters in Madrid are cold and dry. January is the coldest month of the year, with 6ºC (43ºF).

  • Currency: The euro replaced the Spanish peseta as the country's national currency in 2002.
  • Business Hours: Traditional hours are 9 or 10am to 2pm and 5 to 8 or 9pm. Shops located in the Salamanca district next to the hotel have more flexible hours, often staying open through lunchtime.
  • Taxes: There are no special city taxes for tourists, except for the VAT (value-added tax, known as IVA in Spain), levied nationwide on all goods and services, ranging 7% to 33%.
  • Electricity: 220 volts. 
  • Smoking: smoking is only allowed in smoking areas.
  • Tipping: the government requires restaurants and hotels to include their service charges- usually 15% of the bill. However, it is a common practice to tip an extra 10% especially in restaurants and night clubs depending on the quality of the service.

Driving directions from Madrid Barajas International Airport

Follow signs to Madrid through the A2 motorway until Maria de Molina Avenue which leads directly to Paseo de la Castellana and Doctor Marañón Plaza. Turn left to take Paseo de la Castellana, continue straight across the Emilio Castelar Plaza and after 600m, take a right turn and immediate left to enter the outside lanes of the Paseo de Castellana. At the stoplights, turn left and cross over the Paseo de la Castellana and turn left on the outer lane.
